Excusals
If you claim an optional exemption or mandatory disqualification listed below, you will be excused unless otherwise notified:
- Caring for someone unable to care for self
- Physically unable (will submit doctor's note)
- Expectant mother or a woman who has given birth within six months
- Convicted felon who's civil rights have not been restored
- Parent not employed full time and who has custody of a child under 6 years of age
- Under prosecution for any crime
- Person 70 years of age or older
- Person 70 years of age or older and want to be permanently excused
- No longer residing in Okeechobee County
- Active full time law enforcement officer or law enforcement investigative personnel
You can also make an extraordinary request for excusal or postponement.
All requests for excusal/postponement must be received no less than five (5) working days prior to your reporting date. A representative from jury services will notify you if your request is being denied. If you are not contacted your request is being granted. A new jury summons will be issued for a later date on all postponements. You can either mail, e-mail, or visit our Jury Access page to submit your requests for excusal.
